Our Kinder through 6th grade Music Makers group that meets on Wednesday afternoons during the school year will be performing a spring musical called Table for Five…Thousand: The Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes, by Tom S. Long and Allen Pote, during the 9:30 am worship service on Sunday, May 22, 2016.

Unforgettable melodies and poignant lyrics abound in this inspiring musical based on the account of Jesus’ feeding the five thousand. Found in all four New Testament gospels, the story reveals how one young boy with five loaves of bread and two fish, along with his apparent willingness to share, led to an event so startling that members of the crowd wanted to proclaim Jesus as King. Later, the event revealed an even greater truth as Jesus told his disciples, “I am the Bread of Life. Those who come to me will never go hungry.”

The musical remains true to the Biblical accounts while underlining the theme that the most humble among us, especially children, can do great things with God’s help. Please come out and show your support. Click here to hear their rendition of Dancing Two by Two by Allen Pote that they sang on Sunday, April 26, 2015. Bonnie Greey directs the production.

Bon Voyage Concert – Youth Choir Tour Preview

Later that evening, you’re invited to come back to church to hear our youth sing. Join us on Sunday, May 22, at 6 pm in the sanctuary, when the Youth Choir will hold a Bon Voyage Concert before they travel to Los Angeles, CA over Memorial Day Weekend, May 28-30, 2016. The tour includes a stop at First United Methodist Church of Pasadena, where they join the Sounds of the Risen Son Youth Choir. They will also participate in a Sunday service at First UMC of Santa Monica, watch a movie at El Capitan Theater, hike to the Hollywood sign, and visit Universal Studios. Click here to read the full choir itinerary. You can help support the Youth Choir by giving generously at the concert (we’ll take a free-will offering at the event) and by encouraging your teen to join the choir next year.

The choir is under the leadership of Tommy Strawser, an accomplished singer who has sung with the Grammy-award winning Phoenix Chorale, and a performer with Childsplay, a theater group in Tempe, AZ. He is our assistant music director and leads worship with Andria Fennig at Ignite, our 11:15 am alternative worship service in the chapel.
