Every year, we designate a special Sunday to celebrate the Desert Southwest Conference’s Camping Ministries, and this year, we invite you to join us on Sunday, March 26, 2017 as we kick off the 70th Anniversary Celebration of Mingus Mountain Camp and Retreat Center in Prescott, AZ.

Mike Crevelt, site director of Camp Mingus, is shown below with his wife, Barbara, and they are anxious to invite us all up to camp July 2-5, 2017, for their 70th Annviersary Open House.

MikeAndBarbaraCreveltWebJack Shaffer is Chair of the Mingus Camp Board, and is organizing this special event with Rev. Brenda Smith, who is also part of the board.

“Our greatest hope this year,” says Brenda, “is to raise funds for a much-needed new Dining Hall. You may make donations, register to come to the celebration with your family, July 2-5, or purchase special T-shirts, mugs, and hats, all with the 70th Anniversary Mingus Camp logo.”

Come visit the tent outside worship, buy some souvenirs to show your support, and see what’s happening to make Camp Mingus better physically and spiritually.

We’ll have 70th Anniversary branded merchandise, including:

  • T-shirts: $10
  • Mugs: $10 or 2 for $15
  • Hats: $20 or 2 for $30

Proceeds from these items and registrations will provide scholarship money and other support for the camping ministry at Mingus, as well as help fund the new Dining Hall project.

If you’re a parent with children who may be interested in going to camp, or a young adult or teen interested in volunteering, we invite you to come see what makes Mingus so special. We’ll have camp brochures and information on how to register for camp this summer. See and read more about Mingus Camp.

Volunteers needed! To register to volunteer:  www.dsccamps.org/volunteer.

Our church has committed to sponsor ten children from UMOM from the local homeless shelter.  Any donations will support scholarships for children and teen cabin assistants, then any camping needs for programming.  To register a child:  www.dsccamps.org.  Thank you for making a difference in the life of a child and teen volunteer.
