Luke 9: 24 & 25

For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it.  What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self?

Living by Principles

These words were quoted and said by Jesus in all four Gospels and, in two of them, it was said more than once, but in a slightly different way.  This was the only saying of Jesus that was given and quoted so many times.  I think this shows the emphasis of it.  This was of major importance in the teachings of Christ. I think that if this present life of ours is so incredibly important to us, we will do anything to protect it. By contrast, if we realize that by following Jesus and placing our emphasis on Him and His teachings, we can believe that no matter what happens to us that we will not fear it because we know that Jesus will raise us to eternal life.  Nothing material can compensate for the loss of this eternal life that is given to us.  We, as disciples of Jesus, are not to use our lives on earth only to please ourselves, but rather, we should spend our lives and time here serving God and others.

Prayer:  Oh Lord, help us to live more by your principles.  Give us the wisdom and mental clarity to follow in your pathways. Let us understand that our time here on earth is temporal and fill our hearts and souls with your presence so that we might reflect your love.  Forgive us for straying from your righteousness and putting our trust in unworthy and unimportant things. May we begin serving both you and others more than our own selfish desires.  We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
