Micah 6:8 (NKJV)
8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?
It’s the night before “the night before Christmas.” Outside the drugstore a volunteer rings a bell next to a red kettle. Inside the mall a few tags with children’s wishes for Christmas morning remain on the trees. Little ones press noses to toy store windows hoping Santa remembers what they’ve whispered in his ear.
Birds in the backyard feast on scattered seeds and a radiant Phoenix sun streaks the sky with red, yellow and orange. A group of carolers strolls through the neighborhood singing and a nativity scene in front of a church comes to life. There’s food on the table, warm blankets on the bed and a fire on the hearth.
As I look around at the goodness God shows us every day, I’m struck by its abundance. And what does God ask of us?
1. Recognize injustice and do something about it when possible
2. Extend mercy even when it’s undeserved
3. Remember humility in times of triumph
Lord, we bow humbly before your throne, thanking you for your unwavering love and grace. May we be quick to lift our praises to you, remembering always the blessings you’ve heaped upon us. We are forever in your debt for the sacrifices you have made on our behalf. Amen
