Holy Week

Holy Week begins On Palm or Passion Sunday, March 29, and ends on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015.

Each year, PVUMC offers a Maundy Thursday worship service and a Good Friday service, as well as a variety of Easter worship services. One of these is our sunrise service in the outdoor amphitheater. The other three are held in our sanctuary. For more details on our Easter services, click here.

Maundy Thursday

On Maundy Thursday, April 2, our evening service usually includes optional foot washing, to re-enact how Jesus washed his disciples feet before the Last Supper. We also celebrate communion together as we remember this last meal of Jesus on earth.

Good Friday

On Good Friday, we remember how Jesus suffered and died on the cross. Why is it good? Because in this selfless act, Jesus took on all the sins of humanity, and broke the bond that sin had over us. Now, we can experience God’s grace through the gift of Jesus. Join us as we remember this at the Good Friday service, April 3, 2015. It will be a Taize Service, a reflective service with scriptures, music and candlelight, inviting us to listen for God and reflect deeply on the meaning of Jesus’ passion and gift of his life. An instrumental ensemble will provide beautiful accompaniment for our worship.

Check our online calendar for times.

Family Easter Celebration

The day before Easter, on Saturday, April 4, 2015, we invite you to our Family Easter Celebration, 9:30-11 am in the Fellowship Center and on the patio. We’ll have Easter egg hunts for all ages, bounce houses, arts and crafts, model trains, a petting zoo and cookie decorating. Click here to find out more about this free event that’s fun for the whole family!

Walk Through Holy Week

We also offer an interactive worship experience that you can do at your own pace, and at your own time. This year’s Walk Through Holy Week is based on our Lenten study, The God We Can Know: Exploring the “I AM” Sayings of Jesus by Rob Fuquay. Click here to find out more about the book and sign up for daily emailed devotions that focus on this book. The church office also has a few copies of the book, so please call us to purchase one for $7. Check our online calendar, or call our office, to find out when Room H1 will be open during Holy Week for this experience.

To find out more about Holy Week, and how we remember this important week of Jesus’ life, we invite you to watch the Chuck Knows Church video below. Chuck also has more specific videos about Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter lilies, which we use as decorations on Easter.

Have a blessed Holy Week!
