Our 1st through 6th grade Music Makers group that meets on Wednesday afternoons during the school year will be performing a spring musical called A Technicolor Promise during the 9:30 am worship service on Sunday, May 17. A Technicolor Promise retells the well-known story of Noah and the ark in a new way. The rainbow is a wonder of creation and reminds us of God’s overwhelming love and grace. Please come out and show your support. Click here to hear their rendition of Dancing Two by Two by Allen Pote that they sang on Sunday, April 26, 2015. Bonnie Greey directs the production.

Bon Voyage Concert – Youth Choir Tour Preview

In the evening on Sunday, May 17, at 6 pm in the sanctuary, the Youth Choir will hold a Bon Voyage Concert before they travel to Las Vegas, NV for their spring tour. The tour includes performing at senior homes, partnering with Desert Springs UMC for a Sunday service, and experiencing Cirque du Solei’s “O” and a visit to the Hoover Dam. You can help support the Youth Choir by giving generously at the concert (we’ll take a free-will offering at the event) and by encouraging your teen to join the choir next year.

The choir is under the leadership of Tommy Strawser, an accomplished singer with the Grammy-award winning Phoenix Chorale, and a performer with Childsplay, a theater group in Tempe, AZ. Currently, he’s playing one of the three javelinas in The Three Javelinas, a play based on Susan Lowell’s famous book The Three Little Javelinas. PVUMC members who would like to see the play May 23 or 24, 2015 may purchase discount tickets by visiting www.childsplayaz.org or calling 480-350-2822. Use the promo code “JOSEFINA” when you purchase to receive $5 off tickets.

Tommy has been a wonderful addition to our music and arts team. Besides directing our youth choir, he also leads our Sunday morning Children’s Choir which meets during the school year on Sundays right after Sunday School, at 10:30-11 am, and occasionally leads the Chancel Choir and participates in the Praise Band at Ignite. This Sunday, May 17, 2015, he sings a solo, which is always a treat. Click here to listen to his rendition of Brother Will, Brother John earlier this year.
