PVUMC partners with Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) and United Methodist Outreach Ministries (UMOM) every month, even during the summer.

FMSC and PVUMC

PVUMC offers monthly meal packing opportunities on Saturdays, 4:30-6:30 pm, at the Feed My Starving Children Mesa warehouse at:

Mesa Fiesta Building
1345 S Alma School Rd
Mesa, AZ 85210

This new facility allows the organization to accommodate 150,000 more volunteers and pack 35 million more meals each year.

PHOENIX MOBILEPACK – July 25, 2015

If you were with PVUMC in 2013, you may have participated in Feed My Starving Children’s 24-hour “Change the World” event at the Phoenix Convention Center. On April 13, 2013 PVUMC sent 300 volunteers to pack meals and pray over them before they were sent to the Philippines. This summer, we have an opportunity to participate in another PhoenixMobilePack event at the Convention Center. We have reserved 100 spots for Saturday, July 25, 3-5 pm, and, if you’re in town, we hope you’ll join us.

To participate, please email Jim Bateman, jnbateman@aol.com, and include a contact name and number, as well as the names and emails of adults age 18 and older. If you are registering children, please just include their names and ages. Each person typically packs a total of 216 manna packs worth 22 cents each during a two-hour session. That’s about $50. If you can donate, it will help FMSC further its impact. We’ll also offer packing in August at the Mesa Warehouse: August 15, 2015, 4:30-6:30 pm.

Older children at our Vacation Bible Camp also have a field trip planned to the FMSC warehouse on July 16, 2015. Email Brenda Smith, brenda@pvumc.org, or click here to download your registration form and find out more.

UMOM and PVUMC

Founded in 1964, UMOM is the largest shelter for homeless families in Phoenix, Arizona. Their mission is to keep families together, by providing a continuum of care from emergency shelter to transitional housing and finally, permanent, affordable housing. Families at UMOM have the opportunity to gain the skills, medical care, quality child care, and education they need to rebuild their lives and succeed when they leave.

PVUMC offers opportunities to serve dinner to residents three times a month at UMOM. On the 2nd and 4th Saturdays, you are invited to offer your gift of service by emailing Dave Hepburn. Summer dates are June 13 and 27, and July 11 and 25.

The facility is located at 3333 E Van Buren St, Phoenix, AZ 85008. Click here to read more about UMOM, the largest homeless shelter for families in the state of Arizona.

We also have an opportunity to cook and/or serve dinner at the Watkins Center on the second Thursday of the month, June 11 or July 9. The Young Adult Lifegroup has offered to serve on July 9, 5-7 pm, and plans to volunteer at VBC the following week. To offer your gift of service for these or future dates, please email Elaine Heredia.

Special Food Collection – 2015 Annual Conference Mission Project

On Sunday, June 7 and June 14, 2015, we invite you to bring canned tuna and canned or dry bags of beans for our food collection. We will donate what we collect to UMOM, and report how much we collect to the Conference. Look for our final total on June 15, 2015, when we’ll post it via social media (@PVUMC on Twitter/Facebook) using the hashtag #dscumc. Read more.
