During July, youth ministry remains active, with volleyball, pool parties, local mission opportunities and mission trips.
Since June, the youth have been invited to join other UMC at churches around the Phoenix Metro area for volleyball games. Dr. Ashley Snavley has had an active role leading this activity, along with a few parents and the youth ministries director, Christopher Wurpts.
Here’s the volleyball schedule for July:
July 1 (at Gilbert UMC) against Gilbert UMC (team “A”) and Gilbert UMC (team “B”)
July 8 (at Desert Foothills UMC) against Desert Foothills and Cross in the Desert
July 15 (at 1st Mesa UMC) against Gilbert UMC (team “B”) – ONLY ONE GAME
July 22 (at 1st Mesa UMC) against 1st Mesa UMC – ONLY ONE GAME
All youth are invited to join us, and we encourage you to invite your friends and family to come play too.
We leave from the church at 6:15 pm and are back by 9:30 pm.
No youth activities are scheduled for the July 4th holiday weekend.
Local Mission Projects
Water Hydration Stations: Join Other UMC Youth July 12, 2015 (2:30 pm – 6:30 pm)
On July 12, we’ll be joining other UMC youth groups from across the valley, handing out water on a hot day to people who need a drink. This is an excellent mission project for those of us living in the Valley of the Sun, and, even in the heat, it will be fun and rewarding. All participating youth need to bring one case of water to hand out. We’ll leave the church at 2:30 pm for Dayspring UMC and get back to PVUMC at 6:30 pm. (This takes the place of VIBE this week).
Vacation Bible Camp Volunteers Needed
The week of July 13-17, 2015, we welcome 100+ children to PVUMC for our Vacation Bible Camp, G-Force: God’s Love in Action!
The program meets 9 am-12 noon, with extended day available from noon to 4 pm for 1st-6th graders. Thank you to so many youth who have already stepped up, and to those who helped as assistants at Discovery Camp at Mingus Mountain, June 29-July 3. YOU are God’s love in action!
July 5-10: Jr High Mission Trip to San Diego, CA
A small group of our entering 6th-8th grade students travel to San Diego on their summer mission trip to San Diego, where they will participate in a variety of service projects. From painting residents’ homes to helping lead a kids’ club, the group will be busy serving those less fortunate. Please keep them in your prayers, and if you’d like to bless them on their way, join us at the 8 am service, Sunday, July 5, 2015.
July 19-24: Sr. High Mission Trip to Black Mesa, AZ
There’s still room available for your senior high student (entering 9th-12th grades) to join us on this weeklong trip serving the Navajo and Hopi people in Northern Arizona. Read more and apply online.
