The Desert Southwest Conference is privileged to host the Western Jurisdictional Conference (WJC) in July 2016. This is the first time Arizona has been host to this quadrennial event, and the Conference wants to roll out the red carpet.

During WJC, we will elect a new bishop, and will have a consecration service at Paradise Valley United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 16 at 2 pm in the sanctuary.

Each of the ten participating bishops will have their own banners, and volunteers have been solicited to carry the banners as part of the worship procession.

PVUMC will provide music, including combined choirs, brass and a visiting youth harp choir. The Welcome Team and Ushers will be on hand to greet and usher. Serendipities (our campus gift shop) and the Paradise Perk will be open as well. Here are their hours:

Paradise Perk     11:30 am-4 pm
Serendipties        11:00 am-2 pm

We’ll also have our VBC orientation and leaders training in the morning; email Brenda if you can volunteer to help us during the week. This is one of our biggest outreach programs of the year, and we need as many volunteers as we can get to make it a success.

Visitors from four other conferences will be in town July 13-16, 2016 at the Doubletree Paradise Valley Resort, and we need several volunteers to help with this event, including drivers to and from the airport, greeters at the hotel, medical staff (nurses), and others to help with registration, at the help desk, and at two worship services. Please sign up now using this link: Use the tabs at the top to choose which area you are interested in, such as airport greeters or drivers.

Please contact Jen Lower, Local Program & Arrangements, with any questions at: 602.516.5315.

Could this newly elected bishop one day be appointed to our conference? Come to Scottsdale, AZ, and experience it.As the Desert Southwest Conference, it is our pleasure to not only host but to provide hospitality for the entire conference. Let’s show the West what extravagant hospitality really looks like!
