Howard Thurman, a 20th century theologian and peace and justice activist, said, “Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” We all have something in us that makes us come alive, something that makes our heart sing, something that sets us on fire. Far too often, though, we stifle those things and put them on the back burner while we focus on the day-to-day tasks that are right in front of us.
In the meantime, it feels like these dreams float further and further away from us, possibly keeping us from truly stepping out in faith in big ways – something that God may just be waiting for us to do. This week, at the 8 and 9:30 am services we begin a new worship series called “Dream Big,” looking at the ways that we can dream those big dreams and take those big steps. We begin with “Dreamcatchers” and the ways that the entire community plays a role in our big dreams.
At Ignite, we also begin a new worship series called “Faith + __________”, looking at the ways that our faith influences and is influenced by different parts of our lives. This week, we will talk about the way that our faith informs our work, our behavior at work and how, what we do for a living may have an influence on how we live out our faith. Among some of the things we will consider are: Is your faith incognito at work? How do you speak your faith at work? How does your faith show up at work? What are the challenges of speaking/living your faith at work? Do you sense a calling from God in your work?
See you Sunday!
