Start the New Year right with worship at PVUMC. We’ll have two services at 9:30 and 11:15 am on New Year’s Day, then we’ll return to our regular worship schedule on January 8 with services at 8 am in the chapel (traditional), 9:30 am in the sanctuary (traditional/blended, with Sunday School classes for children, youth and adults), and 11:15 am, our Ignite service, which offers an alternative to our other more traditional services. Come as you are, meet us in the chapel, and feel the Holy Spirit move through us as we enjoy singing with the band, under the leadership of Assistant Music Director Tommy Strawser and Director of Contemporary Worship Arts Andria Fennig.

On New Year’s Day, also Epiphany Sunday, January 1, 2017, Senior Pastor Dave Summers begins a new worship series called “The Perfect Prayer.”

The five-week series seeks to help us learn to pray and build a deeper prayer life based on the prayer Jesus taught us to pray in Matthew 6:5-13: The Lord’s Prayer.

The first part of the worship series, “Abba,” focuses on the name Jesus called his Father and ours, God the father in Aramaic. “Abba” signifies a close, intimate relationship of a father to his child, and it’s the kind of relationship we seek to have with God.

A Wesleyan Covenant Renewal will be a part of both services too.

Sunday, January 8, 2017 examines the phrase, “On Earth as it is in Heaven,” which refers to the Kingdom of God and how it’s more than just a spiritual construct. God expects the Kingdom of Heaven to be built here on earth, by his followers — us! What does it mean for us to work on building the Kingdom here, in terms of justice, love and relationships? On Sunday, January 15, Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday weekend, the message teaches us to ask God for the things we need, like bread, or spiritual needs. “Give us this Day” is a phrase that encourages us to ask boldly and confidently, trusting God’s answer.

On Sunday, January 22, 2017, Guest Preacher Jeffrey Kuan, President, Claremont School of Theology, will preach on forgiveness. Sunday, January 29 is Youth Sunday and the Youth Choir will sing as Christopher Wurpts, youth ministries director, preaches on “Lead us not into Temptation, but Deliver us from Evil.”
