The PVUMC Book Group meets the first non-holiday Monday of the month for a book discussion of a new title each month. Meetings are held in the church library (G2), 12:15-1:15 pm. Come a little earlier to chat.
Here’s the schedule through September:
January 9 A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman (Guide: Marilyn).
February 6 Presidents’ Club by Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy (Guide: Janis Steiner)
March 6 Memory Man by David Baldacci (Guide: Bonnie Belza)
April 3 Circling the Sun by Paula McLain (Guide: Peggy Howard)
May 1 When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi (Guide: Cheryl Del Monte)
June 5 The Secret to Hummingbird Cake by Celeste Fletcher McHale (Guide: Carol Mosser)
July 10 Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis by J.D. Vance (Guide: Bonnie Belza)
August 7 The Girl in the Red Coat by Kate Hamer (Guide: Fran Clark)
September 11 The Secret Chord by Geraldine Brooks (Guide: Paula Rugen)
The group decides what to read, usually setting their schedule of books several months in advance. In December, they have a Christmas potluck and book exchange.
Email Cheryl DelMonte for more information about the group and to suggest books for the upcoming months at email@example.com
A few that have been offered for consideration come from Good Morning America TV anchors, who have several books on a 2016 holiday list online. They include: Fool Me Once and Home by Harlan Coben and Born a Crime by Trevor Noah. If you’ve read these, and would like to lead a discussion in an upcoming month, let Cheryl know. You do not have to be a member of PVUMC to jon this group, or any other, at the church. This group is a part of our Pathways program.
