On Sunday, February 26, 2017, the youth of Paradise Valley United Methodist Church hosted its annual Youth Mission Dinner and Auction to raise money for its summer mission trips. Many thanks to all the sponsors, contributors, friends and family who helped us raise more than $20,000 for our mission programs. You are God’s love in action!

Proceeds raised from the event will be used for youth mission and outreach events, as well as our 2017 Youth Choir Tour to Tacoma, Washington. Read more about these opportunities below.

Throughout the years, our faith community has had the privilege of sending hundreds of teenagers around the world on life-changing mission trips. In just the last few years, our youth group has gone to busy cities like Denver and San Francisco, as well as to rural areas like the Navajo reservation in Arizona, and Arkansas. Last year, our group went to Piura, Peru. We try to offer an international youth mission trip every 4 years so our youth have at least one opportunity to experience mission outside of the USA.

These sorts of trips aren’t just about the good work we do for the communities we visit. Although that work is very important, the impact short-term mission trips have on the people who go on them is just as amazing. On every trip, youth join in on the work that God is doing through some of the amazing churches and non-profits we visit. It expands their worldview, and gives us all hope for the world.

As the youth prepare for this summer’s Senior High Mission Trip to San Francisco with Praying Pelican Missions July 21-28, 2017, we are grateful for your support of PVUMC youth, to keep the cost affordable and to give everyone who would like to go the opportunity to serve with our youth group. Participant meetings will be Sunday, June 25 and July 16 — both at 11 am in the Fellowship Center.

This year, we expect more than 25 senior high youth in grades 9-12 to participate in a weeklong trip serving people living in the San Francisco area. Service projects will include light construction, working with area non-profits and charities, and leading daily programing for local community children.

Students in grades 5-7 are invited to go to Tucson, AZ, July 2-7, 2017, where they will be working with Praying Pelican Missions and the homeless community in southern AZ. Please contact Sam Henderson, coordinator for Squad 57 (5th-7th graders), shenderson@pvumc.org, for more information about the Tucson trip.

Finally, the youth choir will travel to Tacoma and Seattle, Washington June 8-12, 2017 for their summer tour, performing with other choirs from across the country at the Youth Choir Festival Northwest at Pacific Lutheran University and bringing the gift of music to others in the area. Click here for more information.
