Every year, we designate a special Sunday to celebrate the Desert Southwest Conference’s Camping Ministries, and this year we set aside Sunday, March 26, 2017 as the kick off of the 70th Anniversary Celebration of Mingus Mountain Camp and Retreat Center in Prescott, AZ.

Mike Crevelt, site director of Camp Mingus, is shown below with his wife, Barbara. They are anxious to meet us up at camp July 2-5, 2017, for their 70th Annviersary Open House. Read more and Register. (Online registration closed on June 30. Call Dina Reid, If you’re still interested in coming, call Camp Registrar Dina Reid at 602-798-8215.)

MikeAndBarbaraCreveltWebJack Shaffer is Chair of the Mingus Camp Board, and has organized this special event with Rev. Brenda Smith, who is also part of the board.

“Our greatest hope this year,” says Brenda, “is to raise funds for a much-needed new Dining Hall. You may make donations, register to come to the celebration with your family, July 2-5, or purchase special T-shirts, mugs, and hats, all with the 70th Anniversary Mingus Camp logo.”

On special Sundays through June, we had camp information and souvenirs. Buy and wear a T-shirt and/or cap to show your support, and see what’s happening to make Camp Mingus better physically and spiritually. Mugs are available too.

The 70th Anniversary branded merchandise on sale includes:

  • T-shirts: $10
  • Mugs: $10
  • Hats: $20

Proceeds from these items and registrations will provide scholarship money and other support for the camping ministry at Mingus, as well as help fund the new Dining Hall project.

Camp Scholarship Fund

It costs $350 to send a child to camp on a scholarship. Donate all or part of that cost to help a child from the city experience camp in the great outdoors. Camp can be life-changing, offering children and youth who have never been out of the city a chance to breath fresh air and experience nature. Mingus Camp’s faith-based camp curriculum merges how we see God in creation, and how we care for creation and each other.

Our church has committed to sponsor ten children from UMOM New Day Centers, our local homeless shelter.  Any donations will support scholarships for children and teen cabin assistants, then any camping needs for programming. Donate at GIVE NOW and include “Mingus Scholarship Fund”

To donate specifically for the Dining Hall, specify your donation in the memo line when you donate at GIVE NOW.
