This Sunday is Confirmation Sunday. Throughout the last two years, a small group of students has been taught the basic tenets of the Christian faith and how to interpret them within the United Methodist Church. After much consideration and prayer, four of the students have decided to publicly profess their faith and join our church family at PVUMC. This is a special day for all of us, as we are able to watch these young people take ownership of what they believe, joining us on our mission to be “God’s Love in Action.”
In his first letter to the church in Corinth, the apostle Paul wrote at length about the importance of diversity within the church. Even then, he recognized that sharing the love of Jesus with the world would require a wide variety of different people. Besides lowering the average age of membership at our church, each of these young people bring important gifts and strengths to our congregation. Young people bring fresh energy and new ideas. They’re able to help interpret the changing face of culture, acting as ambassadors between our church and younger generations. It is a privilege and an honor that Amanda, Duncan, Grace and Sarah would choose to contribute these gifts (along with their own unique God-given strengths) to the mission and vision of PVUMC.
Now, I know that many of you might think you can take a week off after our wonderful Easter celebration last week, but I want to encourage you to come and welcome these wonderful teenagers into our church family on Sunday morning. They will be confirmed at the 9:30 am service. Let’s all celebrate the wonderful work God will do through all of us as we fully welcome them as adult members of the church.
Next week, we begin a new worship series called, “ONE.” Read more.
