I’m not going to lie. Packing is no fun. There, it’s out there. I’ve said it. But if there was anything that could even remotely close in on a “positive” about packing and moving, it is the fact that it unearths a lot of the things that you forgot you had…and maybe wonder why you kept.

In the midst of this move, I found something that I picked up somewhere in my wanderings: a wall hanging with the words, “Home is where your story begins”. It’s one of those pithy sayings with which I have a love/hate relationship, but it also caused me to stop and think at this particular moment in my journey. A human being is comprised of so many stories; does that mean then that we have just as many homes?

What makes a home? Family? Friends? Security? Love? Comfort? Support? Opportunity to learn and the challenge to grow?

When I think about my PVUMC family, I check all of those boxes. This has been a home and family for my son and me for four years and you have made us both better for it. You have loved us, you have nurtured us and you have prepared us for the journey ahead. Both William and I have so many stories that have begun here with you; stories that will continue throughout the rest of our lives. We have seen the face of God in yours and felt the love of Christ through you.

Leaving you is one of the hardest things I have had to do. I love you. But I take you with me to Las Vegas and Advent United Methodist Church. The love that you have given me, I will give them. The lessons you have taught me, I will offer to them. The grace you have shown me, I will share with them.

Thank you, Paradise Valley United Methodist Church, for everything. God be with you ‘til we meet again.

See you Sunday…one last time…

She and her son, William, move there at the end of the month, and her new ministry begins July 1, 2017. Join us for a reception in her honor Sunday, June 11 after all three of the worship services.
