Support the PVUMC youth who are attending a summer mission trip by purchasing your very own “Prayer Deck.” Each card in the professionally-printed 52-card deck features a photo of either a student participant or youth worker for whom you can pray for throughout the summer. This is a powerful way to support our group, as we send 30 young people out into the world to be God’s love in action™. Decks are available outside of the worship area, immediately after the service or throughout the week at the church office. Suggested minimum donation is $25 per deck.

Throughout the years, our faith community has had the privilege of sending hundreds of teenagers around the world on life-changing mission trips. In just the last few years, our youth group has gone to busy cities like Denver and San Francisco, as well as to rural areas like the Navajo reservation in Arizona, and Arkansas. Last year, our group went to Piura, Peru. We try to offer an international youth mission trip every 4 years so our youth have at least one opportunity to experience mission outside of the USA.

These sorts of trips aren’t just about the good work we do for the communities we visit. Although that work is very important, the impact short-term mission trips have on the people who go on them is just as amazing. On every trip, youth join in on the work that God is doing through some of the amazing churches and non-profits we visit. It expands their worldview, and gives us all hope for the world.

This summer’s Senior High Mission Trip to San Francisco with Praying Pelican Missions July 21-28, 2017, allows PVUMC youth the opportunity to serve at an affordable cost. Thank you for your contributions to the youth group and for your prayers.

Participant meetings are Sunday, June 25 at 11 am in the Fellowship Center and July 16. Christopher Wurpts is preaching at all services on Sunday, July 16, so meet after the Ignite service at 12:15 pm in the Fellowship Center for the final meeting.

This year, we expect more than 25 senior high youth in grades 9-12 to participate in a weeklong trip serving people living in the San Francisco area. Service projects will include light construction, working with area non-profits and charities, and leading daily programing for local community children.

Students in grades 5-7 are invited to go to Tucson, AZ, July 2-7, 2017, where they will be working with Praying Pelican Missions and the homeless community in southern AZ. Please contact Sam Henderson, coordinator for Squad 57 (5th-7th graders),, for more information about the Tucson trip.

The Youth Choir returned from their Tour to Tacoma, Washington on June 13. They sang in worship at Peace Lutheran Church in Tacoma, as well as performed in the Youth Choir Festival Northwest at Pacific Lutheran University. Below, they sing “Ungeo,” a song in swahili that means “Speak truth in love.”
