In May, we have a few special Sundays, including May 6, when we have our Teacher Appreciation and Mini-Singers Concert. Join us at 11 am in the sanctuary for a short concert of our littlest singers! We’ll even have refreshments and a chance to talk (and take some photos) afterward.

On May 13, we celebrate Mother’s Day, featuring our music ministry at 9:30 am worship. We’ll also take a special missions offering for UMOM, who we’ve assisted in the past with camp scholarships to Mingus Mountain Camp and Retreat Center.

Ashley Marengo, the youth activities coordinator at UMOM New Day Centers, said, “I was speaking with a mom of a child we gave a registration form to who was also a camper last year. She stated that it was the first time that her son had ever been away from her. She said it was a really hard week for her and she struggled to make it through each day worrying about him. But when he came back and told her about all the amazing things he got to do she was so happy she pushed herself and him to branch out and take part in the opportunity. She was thrilled we were offering the opportunity to him again this year and was the first to return the registration back to us. She is looking forward to the possibility of sending her second son to Mingus when he is old enough.” Your UMOM offering will make a difference in the lives of this boy, and other children, who often miss out on these formative experiences due to a lack of financial resources.

Pentecost Sunday, May 20 is a time for celebration.  We celebrate the UMC’s 50th Anniversary or Jubilee on what’s referred to as Heritage Sunday. We also celebrate our graduating high school seniors. Please contact Christopher Wurpts if you have a high school senior and would like to be included in the celebration. Rev. Brenda Smith preaches at all services on Pentecost Sunday.

Children are important at Paradise Valley United Methodist Church, and we offer year-round ministry programs for them. After our regular Sunday School program at 9:30 am ends for the school year on May 20, we’ll have a Family Sunday on May 27 before our Summer Sundays begin June 3-August 5, 2018.  In the summer months, preschoolers go directly to their classes, but the elementary students begin in worship with a Children’s Moment early in the 9:30 am service, then the children are invited to leave the sanctuary with their teachers to participate in the camp program. Children are escorted back at the end of the service, so you start and end in worship, as a family. On Communion Sundays, always the first Sunday of the month, children return to worship a little earlier to partake communion with their families.

If you are interested in volunteering to assist or lead one or more weeks this summer, please contact Brenda Smith, our deacon and director of family ministries.

See our Upcoming Sermons page for the scriptures and sermons we have planned for May and June.

New Members join the congregation on June 10 (New Member Orientation was Wednesday, May 16, 6:30-9 pm in G2, the church library; RSVP to the church office to find out more and register: 502.840.8360.) The next New Member Orientation is September 19.

Family Sundays

We invite you to worship with your children on Family Sundays, May 27 and July 1, 2018.

Praise Paks or busy bags are always available as you enter worship. Please return the cloth bags when you’re done so we can refill them for the next week.

As part of the family of God, all children are invited to receive communion, which is available nearly every Sunday at the 11 am Ignite service, and the first Sunday of the month at the 8 am and 9:30 am services.

A Preschool class is sometimes offered on Family Sundays, but the older children will remain in worship.
