Legacy: The Revolutionary John Wesley
Sunday we celebrate a mother’s love, which can accomplish so much in human life. We celebrate the ways that God’s divine love is shared through women who have been mothers in our families or spiritual mothers in our church and helped us to grow in the grace of Jesus Christ. I’ve always liked how Proverbs 31 begins, “A capable wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.” (31:10-12).
We do know how fortunate we are to have a capable wife or mother. Truly the best gifts that any of us can pass on have to do with faith and character, helping others to know and trust in God and to live in ways that exemplify our deepest values. This Sunday we’ll talk some about the mother of John and Charles Wesley and how she was truly the mother of Methodism for all of us. We remember her not merely for historical curiosity but to live in the ways she found faithful. Sunday is also a time for us to celebrate the rich ministry of music at PVUMC and how thankful we are for the ways that God speaks through our choral and instrumental music that enlivens our worship. Worship with us Sunday to feel God’s love through our celebration of mothers and music.
