Every year, children attending our Vacation Bible Camp program participate in at least one big mission project. This year, the Rolling River Rampage VBC kids at Paradise Valley United Methodist Church are partnering with Oasis for Orphans, an organization which provides a holistic care approach for orphaned children, focusing on four key areas, including physical, spiritual, educational, and social development.
When this year’s VBC leadership team contacted Oasis for Orphans to ask how they could help, they were asked to donate underwear, which is in short supply. During Vacation Bible Camp, July 16-20, 2018, there will be a big push for donations, but we’ve also designated two Undie Sundays, July 15 and 22. These Sundays fall right BEFORE VBC and right AFTER, making it easier to remember WHEN to bring in your donations of NEW, PACKAGED children’s underwear, all sizes. Bette Dowd is the church coordinator of the VBC mission project. Please email her at email@example.com if you have any questions.
Oasis for Orphans operates Care Centers in Southwest Kenya to care for and educate rescued orphaned children. The centers are broken down into family units, each with a house parent, to offer a place of safety, security, and opportunity for development while addressing the physical and medical needs of children living on-site, within guardian homes, and in the community.
The Oasis currently houses and educates 150 children and the organization has a short-term goal of doubling their numbers as quickly as possible. Their long-term goal is to expand to four sites enabling them to help 1,200 orphans by 2021. In addition to underwear, monetary donations will also be accepted during the daily Vacation Bible School at PVUMC in July. Monetary donations are important to help pay for shipping costs and to buy new underwear for all the orphans. Even $1 will help.

There are several ongoing projects and one big event:
There is an African proverb that says, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” That’s where we can make a difference in the lives of these orphans. Together, we are God’s love in action!
