On Sunday, June 24, 2018, at 12:30 pm in the Chapel, Paradise Valley United Methodist Church holds its Charge Conference or Annual Meeting.

What is a Charge Conference? According to the United Methodist Church General Commission on Archives and History, officers are elected for the coming year at this meeting. At PVUMC, the church budget for the new fiscal year is also presented for a vote. The church shares annual reports from Ministry Teams, and those attending review and evaluate the total mission and ministry of the congregation. They also adopt objectives and goals recommended by the Church Council, or the Administrative Board. Candidates are recommended for ordained and diaconal ministry to the District Committee on Ordained Ministry or to the Conference Board of Diaconal Ministry. Members of the administrative Church Council, or Board, are members of the Charge Conference. The district superintendent calls the meeting and presides over it. Anyone may attend the meeting, and church members, and especially leaders, are encouraged to attend.

Read how the Book of Discipline describes a charge conference.

What is the Annual Conference? Every year, usually in June, PVUMC clergy and lay delegates attend the Annual Conference of the Desert Southwest Conference. Annual Conference was held June 14-17, 2018 at the Renaissance Glendale Hotel & Spa. By attending, we represent United Methodists in this particular geographical area, and from our congregation. All clergy are members. Each local church or charge elects at least one lay member of Annual Conference so that lay members equal clergy members. PVUMC sent Diana Bode, Christopher Wurpts, Kent Heltne (PVUMC’s Lay Leader) and Dave Hepburn. Kim Summers was the alternate.

The Annual Conference was livestreamed. Click here to watch.
