Every year, Paradise Valley United Methodist Church sends a team of walkers to participate in UMOM’s Walk for Homeless Families. This year is no different.

What IS different is that we’re asking you to help UMOM break a Guinness World Record by completing this 1K Walk in flip-flops! The record is currently 1,336 people and there were 1,700 participants at last year’s walk, so we think we can do this!

We invite you to join Team PVUMC-Love in Action at the Phoenix Zoo on Saturday, September 22, 2018. Early-bird Registration is $35 for adults, and $25 for students (up to age 18). Children ages 2 and under are free.

After September 10, 2018, you’ll pay $5 more for each registrant:
Adults (18+) – $40
Students (3-17)- $30
Children (2 and Under)- Free

George Heredia is team captain, and Rev. Brenda Smith will be escorting a group of 3rd and 4th graders that morning through the zoo, after an overnight event. To find out more about Thrive 34, please email her at brenda@pvumc.org.

As of July 13, 2018, PVUMC-Love in Action had raised $200 of the team’s $750 goal. Individual team members or families can also set up personal fundraising pages to raise more needed funds for UMOM. Last year’s event raised more than $70,000 to benefit families, women, and youth experiencing homelessness at UMOM.

Why We Walk

The UMOM Women’s Auxiliary helped to found the Annual Walk for Homeless Families back in 2009. The event helps to raise money and awareness for the homeless families, individuals, and youth in our community. It is a chance for members of our community to show their support for UMOM New Day Centers, give back, walk and also have fun while doing so.

The Walk continues to grow and expand each year. The Phoenix Zoo is a wonderful venue.
