Every first Sunday of the month, the church collects non-perishable food donations for UMOM New Day Centers, the largest homeless shelter for families in the state of Arizona. The shelter prepares food boxes for families that usually include the following items:

  • Canned vegetables
  • Canned fruit
  • Peanut butter & Jelly
  • Soups
  • Any dehydrated potato mixes
  • Rice blends
  • Canned tuna and meat
  • Pasta or pasta meals
  • Condiments
  • Cereal
  • Crackers
  • Boxed meal

If you bring donations, please place them in the labeled blue containers at the bridge entrances and at the south parking lot walkway, or take to the church kitchen (please label “for UMOM” if you choose this option).

PVUMC also recruits volunteers to cook and/or serve dinner at UMOM New Day Centers and the Watkins Shelter each month. Servers are needed on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, and at other times. If you can serve, please contact Dave Hepburn. For the Halle Shelter for Homeless Women dinner service, please contact Elaine Heredia.

Team PVUMC-Love in Action recently participated in the Walk to End Homelessness on Saturday, September 22, 2018. George Heredia was team captain of the church team, which included 30 registered walkers and donations totaling $1,645. Team PVUMC-Love in Action was ranked fourth among the top teams because of our participation and donations to this 10th Annual Walk to help homeless families in Arizona. See https://walkthewalk.rallybound.org/ for more information.

Thank you for being God’s love in action™ at PVUMC.
