Name Above All Names: Wonderful Counselor

We begin our Advent season thinking about the coming of the Messiah and exactly what that means for us. Advent comes from a Latin word, “adventus” which means “coming.” It is a translation of a Greek word, “Parousia” which has been used by the church in reference to the second coming of Jesus.

Advent is a time of deep anticipation. We draw on the hope God gives in fulfilling promises made long ago to send a savior to us. We receive a hope nurtured in the promise that God is so actively working in our world, never giving up on us. We will be looking each week in our worship at the names of the Messiah that come from Isaiah 9: 6 “For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” We’ll look at what each name speaks to our faith in a personal way and how Jesus exemplified these names in his ministry and teachings. Sunday we worship the God who always arrives at the right time, who is working in such important ways in our world. Join us in worship as we come to hear for ourselves the counsel and wisdom of God that can most guide our lives.
