Habitat for Humanity Home Build
Saturday, January 12, 2019, 7:30 am-1 pm
Saturday, May 4, 2019: TBA
The Mighty Methodist Coalition is a Stable Framework Sponsor for the Wodajo Family, who are praying for a safe, well-constructed and affordable home. Paradise Valley United Methodist Church and St Matthew’s UMC will join forces on Saturday, January 12, 2019, to work on the first and second-floor framing of the family’s new home at the Tempe Parkview Townhomes, and again on Saturday, May 4, 2019 to continue construction on the home. Sixteen of the planned 18 units have been completed and the other two will be finished this year by Habitat for Humanity volunteer teams. Lot # 81001 is the first home next to Don Carlos Street, which is east of McClintock and west of the 101, between Apache and University. The homes are all 3-story, 3-bedroom units.

To volunteer, or for more information, please email, Don Wall, chair of the Missions Ministry Team at PVUMC.

Habitat provides all tools, tool aprons, and supplies. Work gloves are useful. Habitat requests that volunteers arrive 15 minutes prior to start time to sign in and attend the morning meeting. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. New volunteers will need to fill out an annual Volunteer Information and Waiver form. This can be filled out in advance and turned in when you arrive or filled out when you get there. A new form is required for each volunteer each year.

The prospective homeowners, Tizazu and Asesebech Wodajo, moved to Phoenix from Ethiopia 15 years ago. They have three sons, Samueal, Elias and Jeremaih, and are currently living in government housing to help them gain financial stability. While the family is extremely grateful for the housing, one of their neighbors creates a hostile living condition, through erratic behavior. The family, as well as other neighbors, have had to call the police on this man frequently. With the threat this neighbor presents the family, Tizazu and Asasebech began to fear for their children’s safety. After sharing their concerns with a family friend, they learned that their friend is a Habitat Homeowner. After hearing about the opportunity to partner with Habitat, the family was inspired to apply.

Tizazu and Asasebech work diligently to provide for their three boys. Tizazu works in the transportation service assisting lost passengers while Asasebech works in the food industry. All three boys are currently enrolled in school, and each does well in all of their studies. When the family is at home, they love spending quality time together playing games, watching sports, and going to the park. They are very excited to have a safe space where they can spend their days playing outside. Owning a Habitat Home, they say, completes their American Dream.

The family, who will be helping to build their home with the volunteers, shared their story with Habitat for Humanity of Central Arizona.

The new residence will be at 1937 E Don Carlos Ave, Tempe, AZ 85281.
