On Mother’s Day, May 12, 2019, we invite you to join us at PVUMC for a celebration of music in honor of our mothers. Every year on this Sunday, we feature our many choirs, from children to adults, and offer uplifting music on this special day.

Our Youth Bells and Bells of Paradise participate at 9:30 am, along with the Music Makers, Youth Choir, Paradise Singers, and the Chancel Choir. Our littlest singers, the Mini-Singers, led by Shari Paris, sing the week before at the Ignite Modern Worship service at 11 am in the chapel, on Sunday, May 5.

We’ll also have free flowers for all the women attending, whether you are a mother or not. It’s our way of recognizing just how important the women in our lives are on Mother’s Day and EVERY DAY!

Musical selections include a solo by Soprano Abby Krawson called “Joy,” Langston Hughes/Rick Ian Gordon. Krawson was the featured soloist on Good Friday for Rutter’s Requiem and is the Soprano section leader for PVUMC’s adult Chancel Choir. The Paradise Singers, our smaller ensemble of female vocalists, perform “I Sing Because I’m Happy–Dilworth” and the Youth Choir sings “A Jubilant Song–Johnson.” The Bells of Paradise and Youth Bells also share pieces themed for this happy day.

Ashley Strawser, music and arts ministries director and organist, plays the powerful and intricate Toccata by Widor as the organ postlude. Mickey Price, timpani and percussion; Derek Everett, drums; and Dr. Dan Puccio, saxophone and guitar, perform alongside all the choirs.

Senior Pastor Dave Summers preaches at 8 and 9:30 am and Youth Ministries Director Christopher Wurpts preaches at our contemporary service, Ignite, at 11 am in the chapel. The music celebration is only at 9:30 am, but every service will be an enjoyable experience on this special day. Their messages focus on the May worship series, “Don’t Waste Your Work.” Read more.

If you like what you hear Sunday and feel inspired to sing with us this summer, you have an open invitation to join the Chancel Choir at 8:45 am on the First Sunday of every month in the choir room (A4) next to the sanctuary in the A building. Lift up your voice and sing!
