The Church Council recently approved a new summer worship schedule at Paradise Valley United Methodist Church beginning Sunday, June 2, 2019. During the summer months of June, July, and August, PVUMC will offer TWO rather than three Sunday worship experiences at 9:30 and 11 am.

The more intimate 8 am traditional worship service will not meet June 2, 2019 through August 25, 2019. The early service resumes its regularly scheduled services in the chapel on Sunday, September 1, a Family Sunday on the Labor Day holiday weekend. You’re invited to join us for a traditional service at 9:30 am in the sanctuary or for a modern worship service (PVUMC Ignite) at 11 am in the chapel.

The combined congregation is an opportunity to create community among those who may not see each other much during the year. Worshipping together in one space at one time may help us engage more in the service and outside the service with one another. The all-church worship service and picnic on Sunday, April 28, 2019, attracted more than 300 people, and included many opportunities for people to get to know each other better as well as lunch, cake and ice cream.

First-time visitor Susan Flatter commented on our Facebook page, “Both food trucks were great. I personally enjoyed the kids [youth] bell choir. And my kids loved the bounce houses and ice cream. Paradise Valley United Methodist Church – you set the bar high. This was our first visit and my kids said, “Wow, they have food trucks!” We enjoyed the service and everyone was very friendly. Thank you.”

What a wonderful testimony!

We’re grateful for our volunteers during the year, and if you are looking for new ways to get involved at church, consider becoming a communion server, greeter, usher, reader, or liturgist. If you have photography, audiovisual, video or other skills, let us know and we’ll connect you to our audiovisual, media or worship ministry. The summer is a great time to explore your passions and interests in different areas of ministry.

Having one traditional service during the summer also makes the best use of limited pastoral, music, administrative, tech and custodial staff. In the past few years, the Marketing and Communications Director has produced one Looking Ahead bulletin insert to cover six weeks of worship. That will continue until the kick-off Sundays for Children and Youth in mid-August this year.

July 7 and September 1, 2019, are Family Sundays when children remain in worship as we share in the Lord’s Supper. The first Sunday of the month is also when you’re invited to help the homeless by donating food for families at UMOM.

The church welcomes this change as an opportunity to come together as one church for the summer. Combining the two services creates more synergy and crossover, with more human resources to handle the one, larger service.

Let us know how you feel about the new summer schedule by calling the church office, 602.840.8360, or emailing one of the clergy or staff.

May God bless you and yours this summer.
