God on Film: The Imagination of Love

There’s something about the summer that makes me want to watch more movies. Maybe it’s the scorching heat outside that makes me want to seek the sweet, air-conditioned relief of a movie theater. Or perhaps it’s the big, bombastic blockbusters that are typically released this time of year. Or maybe I just really, really like popcorn. Who knows?

It certainly is convenient timing, because this Sunday is the kick-off of our God on Film worship series. We’ll be taking almost the entire month of June to look at different genres of film and how we can view them through the lens of faith.

Some of you might be asking, “Why in the world would we ever talk about movies at church? I thought this was supposed to be a time for worship – not a movie review show!”

But here’s the thing: we believe that our faith should filter into every single part of our lives, including the things we watch. Movies tell stories about the way the world works (or how it should work, at least), and as faithful followers of Jesus, it’s our responsibility to ask ourselves whether we buy into the messages our movies tell us. By examining the parts of movies that resonate within us, we learn not only a little more about who we are, but who our Creator is as well.

So come and check it out this Sunday. Spend some time in worship with people who love you, and join us as we find God on film.

Be blessed,

“We invite you to join us on a shared journey of life and faith, open to all, regardless of age, ability, economics, color, race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, politics, theology or anything else that might separate us from each other. Whoever you are and wherever you may be on your spiritual journey, you’re invited to walk with Christ in community with all of God’s children, and embrace the endless possibilities of God’s unconditional love.”
