Explore. Discover. Connect.
You’re invited to explore, discover and connect at Paradise Valley United Methodist Church. Journeys, small groups at pvumc, offers opportunities to travel with others on the pathway to faith. It’s up to you to decide where you’ll go and what path you’ll take to get there. Discover where God is leading you, explore areas of spiritual growth and renewal, and connect with others. Who will your traveling companions be? What will you discover about yourself, your faith, and about those who are journeying with you? Where will you see God and where will God meet you?
Journeys Small Groups – Summer 2019
Just because it’s summer, it doesn’t mean the church closes down. We continue to ignite faith, transform lives and create community, and you’re invited to journey with us. Journeys, small groups at PVUMC, continue year round. In this more relaxed season, there may be fewer opportunities available, but there are still many choices. You may also have more free time to try something new or stay in touch via PVUMC Facebook groups. This summer, you’re invited to: explore different areas of spiritual growth, discover where God is leading you, and connect with others. As we strive to be an All-Embracing, All-Engaging Church in the Community, we invite you to engage with others and grow as a disciple of Christ.
Sometimes, it’s good to make a change. Sometimes, you feel like you’re right where you need to be. Spend some time praying for guidance from God, who will lead you in the right direction. Classes usually meet weekly, twice a month, once a month or sporadically. Call the church office at 602.840.8360 for help contacting small group leaders or members.
Some of the offerings are highlighted below. Check the church calendar to see which groups meet when, and to see if classes change or are canceled.
The Wesley Sunday School Group began a new book study at the end of May, which you’re welcome to join anytime. They are reading Rob Bell’s What Is the Bible? Sundays at 11 am in G2, the church library.
Knitting Together meets in the Paradise Perk on Wednesdays at 9 am in the Paradise Perk, our campus coffee shop. Join this community, and bring your knitting and crocheting, crafting materials or anything you enjoy working on while enjoying conversation and coffee. The group works on prayer shawls, baby hats and more to bless others.
Caring Bible Study plans to read and discuss the book, Inspired: Slaying Giants, Walking on Water, and Loving the Bible Again, by the late New York Times bestselling author Rachel Held Evans. Released on June 12, 2018, this book invites readers on a journey of rediscovery of the Bible. Read more about the book on the late author’s blog. Rachel Held Evans died recently, on May 4, 2019, leaving behind a husband and two small children. Her husband, Dan, posted on her blog while she was hospitalized, finally sharing the tragic news of her death in his final medical update. His posted updates are also part of her blog.
We recognize that while some are away for the entire summer, like our snowbirds, many of you will still be in town, looking for ways to grow your faith and be in community with others at PVUMC.
