Membership

First Steps

Welcome to a place where you belong. We are happy to see you exploring the opportunity to join our community of faithful individuals focused on sharing God’s love in action. We’re dedicated to helping you find the spiritual path that best meets your needs.

New to our church?

As a first step, visit a Sunday service to understand what we’re all about. Stick around to chat with our pastoral team or other congregation members and get to know what it’s like to join PVUMC. We offer both a traditional service and a more modern approach we call IGNITE.

Already stopped by on Sunday?

Many individuals new to PVUMC take the second step of participating in a small group. Small groups are a great place to not only explore your faith but also build relationships with other members. There are a variety of groups that meet regularly with specific interests in mind, check out our full list here.

Attend an orientation get together

Learn more about Paradise Valley United Methodist Church, and a pathway to membership during a PVUMC First Look or Ignite First Look meeting. They offer an opportunity for you to meet with our pastors and members of the church, who can answer your questions about PVUMC and what it means to be a member here.

Attend a new member class

This is a 90-minute class that takes a deeper dive into learning about PVUMC. Called PVUMC 201, we spend this time sharing about our church and exploring what it means to be a United Methodist. We ask that people share a little bit about their personal faith journey. We share key details on our history, mission and vision, and explore the key commitments we expect from members. After this meeting, you’ll be welcomed into our church as a member during an upcoming service.

Stay Active & Involved

Members maximize their experience with PVUMC via relationships built from involvement in small groups, social events and service opportunities. During the membership process, pay attention to key opportunities that spark your interest. As you continue on your path of faith formation, hold onto the inspiration to actively participate and sharing God’s love.

Baptism

Baptism is a ritual to celebrate the coming into your own identity under the vision of Christ. Our ritual follows traditional rhythms of this popular ceremony, and those receiving the Sacrament are thereby marked as Christian disciples, and initiated into the fellowship of Christ’s holy Church.

A baptism welcomes the individual as a child of God, which is why the introduction to the United Methodist Baptismal Covenant states, “We are incorporated into God’s mighty acts of salvation and given new birth through water and the Spirit.” This act calls us to continue the work as a disciple of Jesus.

United Methodists baptize babies, children and adults. The baptismal ceremony takes place as a part of the Sunday worship service with family and the congregation present to welcome the child into the Christian family.
